  • What is SoftWave Therapy?

SoftWave Therapy is a state-of-the-art treatment used to stimulate the body’s natural processes for self-repair. The shock waves produced by our machine penetrate deep into damaged tissue to increase blood circulation and stem cell growth, resulting in a reduction of pain and acute inflammation, without creating any additional tissue damage.

    • Fun Fact: Shock waves were originally used in the treatment of kidney stones, as a byproduct of treatment patients were experiencing a decrease in back pain. Doctors originally attributed this to the elimination of their kidney stones, until one doctor decided to try using shock waves to treat back pain that is not accompanied by kidney stones. The results were amazing. Patients were experiencing a huge reduction in pain; however, the strength of the shockwaves caused a significant amount of trauma to the area. By cutting those shock waves in half (creating “soft waves”) they were able to treat back pain without creating extra tissue damage, while still effectively treating their pain.
  • How does it work?

The SoftWave machine works by “tricking” your body into thinking a fresh injury has occurred. This makes your cell membranes permeable and triggers the release of RNA from the damaged cells. RNA then signals your body to send stem cells and other “biological responders” to accelerate cellular healing.

  • What to expect.

Treatment is based on trigger points we find using our SoftWave applicator, which are indicated by an increase in pain. Your pain level will need to be approximately a 7/8 out of 10, however this should dissipate with each pulse. Only areas of damage and inflammation will result in a painful response, this is how we know we are treating the correct area.

After we find your trigger points, we will increase the intensity and repeat this process 2-3 more times. I will take 3-4 treatments for most patients to see long term results.

Patients often feel an immediate decrease in pain after their treatment, however any of the following responses can be an indication that your treatment was a success:

    • Discovery of trigger points
    • Reduction in pain
    • Increase in mobility
    • Increased stability
    • Decrease in stiffness

After your treatment please refrain from taking any anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.), using ice, or participating in excessive exercise for a minimum of 48 hours. It is important that you allow your body to rest and heal after your treatments

Feeling additional soreness after treatment is normal and will subside after a couple days. However, if you are ever unsure if a side effect you are experiencing is normal, please call our office and talk with your technician.

  • Will SoftWave Therapy Work For You?

SoftWave Therapy has the potential to work for any acute or chronic pain/injury, however factors such as chronicity, lifestyle, type of injury, etc., can effect treatment program duration and results**. Your SoftWave technician should be able to determine if SoftWave therapy will be a viable treatment option for you after completing your first session.
